The sound company I work for is purchasing a unit which will consist of 12 tops (6 per side) and 4 subs (2 per side). Will be flying this unit at most shows of course. The tops have 8.5 inch drivers in them and the subs have 21's. The wattage of the power amps is enormous. We got to hear them in action once so far as we used them when we worked with Michelle Branch and the Wreckers and were gonna hear them a second time with Rusted Root this weekend. So for any of you guys out there that have used adamson let me know your thoughts.

We're looking to put together around a 3k-6kwatt system that brings the boom, doesn't leave out the mids+highs (so many systems seem to lack mids nowdays!), and is durable. The sound system will probably be moved around 5-12 times/mo, indoor and outdoor shows, so durability is a must!

Originally we were leaning towards a turbosound/qsc set up, but after hearing the TXD series aren't the most rugged speakers, we've began to lean towards EAW for the time being.

This is the current prototype model that we're possibly looking at buying (all gear is new, most prices from guitar center).

Hello all you gurus of sound.

I have a questions you all might be able to help me with.

I am a DJ who also puts on small events (less than 200 people usually). I have an old system which I am planning to upgrade and wanted to know what the best next step would be.

Here is what I have:
2 JBL SF25 cabs powered by 1 QSC 1450 amp
2 JBL JRX118S subs powered by 1 QSC 2450 amp

The problem is one of my subs died and needs repair. However I have noticed that I don't feel the subs were adequate anyway and was thinking of selling off the non-broken sub and getting a pair of new subs as my first upgrade to the system (the cabs will probably come next).

If I sell the subs, then I can keep the QSC 2450 to power at least one new sub or just start from scratch and get new amps and subs.

Does anyone have any good advice on somewhat budget subs which give good power for electronic dance music.

I was looking at the dual 15 TurboSounds, the Mackie 18's, the upgraded JBLs, the EAWs.

I have about 3K I can invest, but I obviously would like to spend much less if possible.

The other option is to just spend the couple hundred dollars to fix the old sub and deal with upgrading at some later time when I have more money.

Any suggestions.

Also, a seemingly unrelated question. I have a dbx 3 way crossover. Can someone give me some advice on the crossover setting that is ideal for my setup. I am somewhat new to configuring soundsystems and I could use all the advice I can get.

Thank you so much for your time.

Much love and sounds,
~Brian

I'm familiar with concert grade speakers and our friends asked us to help, so i am trying to help them in their research.
They will mainly use it for small clubs, parties or side stages for smaller touring bands and dj's for 100 - 800 people.
For the buck it seems like a good deal, but i thought i'd ask around and see what came out of it.. any reviews are greatly appreciated.

Hi! I'm purchasing gear for a four-member band. We do a variety of small shows -- coffee houses, house concerts, and charity gigs. Our sound requirements range from unplugged to rooms/tents of 200-300 people.

So we're equipping ourselves with 2 450W Behringer mains and a Behringer Xynyx board. We're mulling over monitors. We have an old Peavy system with 75W monitors. They are big brutes and the last time we used the system, we got some flaky behaviour out of it. I'm worried it is on its last legs.

We looked at some Yorkville 250W 12" powered speakers that are designed to double as wedges. My sense is they are, perhaps, a little large -- do we really need something that big.

Someone suggested a 100W 8" speaker (not sure the brand) that is also powered.

I'm also considering putting, say a 300W amp in our rack and getting two passive 150W speakers.

Our mix includes bass, guitar, whisltes, fiddle, and 4 vocals. Having those monitors is really quite important to us but we aren't sure the parameters that will help us make a good decision. Space is important -- we want to get all this stuff in one van. That's why we're concerned about the size of the Yorkvilles.

I'm concerned that the 8" speaker isn't going to give us particularly good sound.

Can anyone give me any advice or thoughts that might help guide me to a good decision?

Thanks!

I'd like a manual, but I couldn't find anything by make alone, so I think I need a model number. Anyone recognize it? Each of those modules has six breakers, and the circuits support 4k each. On the patch bay on the back, each circuit has four plugs - two 'A' and two 'B.' Couldn't get it to photograph on my little cellular.

Many directors want to use video projection in their shows, and I inherited the theatre's existing method for running projection during performances: straight off of Final Cut Pro into a projector. My problem is this: I find Final Cut to be a clumsy and error-prone way to run projection for shows, particularly as I turn over the running of shows to overhire board ops of varying experience and aptitude. Does anyone have an idea as to the best (perhaps standard) way of running video projection for live theatre? I thought of burning shows to a DVD with chapters as individual cues. Is this the best there is?

I have two cabs with two 18" openings each that have Madison Executioners in them. The boxes are solidly built, and ported, so I just want to swap out the drivers. I have QSC RMX 1450s bridged to mono, one for each box, and they're pushed as far as they can go driving these speakers, so when I upgrade, I'm gonna swap up to RMX 2450s bridged to mono. That means about 1400 watts continuous at 4ohms per cab. My question: what drivers have you used successfully and would recommend for my application? People really want me to use RCFs or Eminence, but I've never heard these drivers. Any other ideas? Thanks!

I'm new to this tribe and I like to just say HI.
I also would like some suggestions on some intelligent lighting. This is what I need: A simple set and forget lighting system, Along the lines of a Highend Trackspot(In fact right along the lines of a Trackspot.) No more than 250 watts, scanner type(moving mirror), no need for a controller(sound to light movement), and of course inexpensive, and this is for a night club, No American DJ or Pro Audio.
The reason is the 10 Trackspots I have now are 12 years old and Highend has discontinued that line(why I don't know, great light). So the owner of the club doesn't want to fix the Trackspots do to the fact that they are now discontinued. So I need to get some new lights. I was looking at the Martin MX-10, Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I wrote this for Matthew and I thought I would post it here so that, hopefully other people would offer up an opinion on getting A.C. to your equipments.

Clean AC is expensive and dangerous! It wouldnt hurt to hook up with an electrician and learn how to tie into three phase supply lines.

But the first step is learning how much power is in the outlet, and haveing lots of thick ac cable.
You can get the most from a wall outlet by running multiple power cords. Instead of plugging in a powerstrip and running amps off of that you should run one cord per amp or light. Even if you have to plug in a "cube tap". The shorter the cable run the better.

I have been painfully putting together a light show for us and we play different size bars, so we need some flexibility. Does anyone know of a software package that shows you lights as you place them (around drums, stage, etc) and that would give you some template ideas or something like that? Like a lighting theme or similiar?

Most of the software packages that I have found either do one of two things. (1) - Design the light show for programattic reasons (to hook up with DMX controllers and run the show). or (2) - Design light show with 3d rendering or information of the sort.

I really am not looking for either one of these. I just would like to be able to put something together for layout or as if you were looking towards the stage. Almost like a Visio template if you will.

Anyways, I'm not sure that I'm explaining this correctly, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.
I am starting a new theatre/talent company in the Los Angeles area.
This will give anyone who is a member of it, real publicity, even if you live far from L.A.
The idea is, to give all members of the company, advertising space in all the programs of all the shows that we do.
That will include, plays, modeling shows, and anything that we do.
If you are an actor, model, or someone who wants to get notice in the entertainment industry, then you can have your picture, bio, e-mail address, and more in every program.
That way, if you live far from Hollywood, or, are not in a show, you still get notice.
If you are a business, then you can take out advertising space, and become a member without paying membership dues.
I want a quality company, that gives back to the community, and one that brings customers to any business that is a part of this.
I LOVE the idea.
Entertainment and business have been very successful together for years, and advertising combined with people who have an eye for success, well, wins.
Please look at my profile at Myspace.com for more details.

If you are going to do a dance club.
Spec a front fill system.

Last nite the only crowd/pit PA was two mackie 450's.
They worked really well.

It might be hard to spec a cheap speaker. And yet most promoter rent dance clubs believing that the PA is included.

Personally I would spec a full-on mini-concert pa. The vibe of the concert and the people that influence future ticket sales are next to the stage. This vibe rolls back to the furthest corners of the whole culutral world let alone the club itself.
If the front rows are vibein' than the concert is a success.

And yet, most dance club PA's are "4-corner" affairs. with zero attention paid to the "stage" area.

One way to sneak in some sound without calling it a mosh-pit PA is to double up on the side fill.

Tell them the truth. Say that the artist jumps out into the audience and wants to hear the same thump that they hear from the monitors.

This will also help you get less complaints from the artist.

I do some sound but am by no means an expert - lighting's more my thing. My theater is having a concert series and my usual braintrust for sound turns out not to be available tomorrow, and it's important enough that I'd rather not wing it. We have a rehearsal/sound check tomorrow starting at 11, and if someone wants to come by our theater at Market and Van Ness and work with us for four hours or so, we'll make it worth your while - at least enough to pay your bar tab that night.

It's a simple set -up, small performance space, two or three mikes, vocals, piano, cello/guitar, a reverb unit, not much else. Like I said, I could probably handle it but the Powers That Be want to make 100% sure it sounds as good as possible.

Give me a call at 415-861-4914 if you're interested.

My cousin is getting married at the end of July, and I have family coming out from the east coast, including my mom.

My mom asked me if my rock & roll band, Plasterkatz, could play in the east bay on Thursday night, July 29th, so all my east coast relatives, who will be staying there, can see us.

Plasterkatz is popular with a lot of places in San Francisco. We play places like The Hotel Utah, The Old Rogue, Hole in the Wall, Brainwash, Beale Street Bar & Grill, & Simple Pleasures. Just this month we’re playing 4 gigs in The City, but I have family members who are bridge/tunnel phobic & can’t brave the trip across the bay (I know – my relatives are freaks!). We really haven’t established any connections in the east bay, yet, and it being July already, most places are already booked on Thursday the 29th.

Does anyone know anyone - or know anyone who knows anyone that has a place - bar, café, club – whatever – where we can play on Thursday, July 29th? The stage would have to be big enough to fit 6 of us - full drum kit, and amps for the electric guitar, bass, mandola & mandolin and 5 mics. We have our own P.A. We’d just need electricity & room for us all. We can squeeze in fairly tight, though. We play great, fun, crowd pleasing music (mp3s at www.plasterkatz.com ), we have the sexiest harmonica player on the planet in our band, we have a following of people who will fill your place & buy your beer/lattes and/or food - and it would make my mom very happy.

You want to make my mom happy, don’t you?

Thanks,
