Re: peavey kosmos vs. the kosmos v2
Fri, October 19, 2007 - 1:54 AMI don't mean to sound bitchy or jaded but I've been in the live sound buisness a long time and I really must say. Avoid peavey at all cost. Also all overheating is BAAAADDDDD!
Also I wouldn't recomend anthing that does what the kosmos does. It adds low end at an octive lower which can do alot of damage to amps and speakers. It's like a sonic maximizer. If you're not running it inline with the whole rig you might be okay but I would say to just work your eq for the punch.

Re: peavey kosmos vs. the kosmos v2 and the ANTI-PEAVEY crowd.
Tue, February 5, 2008 - 8:46 PMHi Chris:
Don't listen to the anti-Peavey crowd. I have been running Peavey SP2Gs, SP1Gs, SP118 subs and a few others. My SP1Gs can outshine even the JBL SRX700 series speakers depending on who is operating them. I saw that myself. There is more to sound than just the gear. Know your gear, run it well, tune the room properly, and you will quickly experience what I always do...... The anti-Peavey crowd come up and compliment my sound and usually end the conversation with..... I didn't know Peavey gear could sound like that. Like many others, I have removed the badging so the nay sayers do not know that the great sound they hear is brought to them courtesy of Peavey. Yeah, Peavey makes some junk, just like every other equipment maker. Even JBL has their garbage lines. Do some creative searching on the net and you will find the complaints. With regard to Kosmos, it is a great device in the hands of someone who is concious of what it does. Even the most expensive sub woofers can sound like crap if they are placed wrong and boundary cancellation starts to happen. With my Peavey subs, I have experienced such punchy bass that the bar tenders across a 400 person hall complained that the bottles and glasses were falling off the shelves. This is not an exaggeration. In other instances, when I was running some of the gear for a DJ gig, the serving staff came over and thanked me for the clean sound of my system as it was not hurting their ears, yet the place felt like it was going through an earthquake. A final word about the anti-Peavey crowd...... they tend to get hung up on the older Peavey equipment issues, such as the pre-constant directivity horns, and pre-phasing plug large format horns. Yeah, they had problems, but the new stuff doesn't. Throw a VSX26 on your system and a healthy serving of CS or GPS series amps and you will ROCK ON, and keep your excess cash in your pocket.
